SMMC QHSE POLICY
Vision
SMMC aims to become the largest handling, warehousing and distribution company in Madagascar and to become the leader in its field in the Indian Ocean.
These are the reasons why SMMC is aligning itself with the major international trends in its business and is gradually adopting an HSEQ policy and management system that aims at three priorities:
- i. to ensure the health and safety of employees
- ii. to protect the environment
- iii. to respect the requirements of customers and competent authorities.
The implementation of this policy requires the unconditional support and active participation of all SMMC stakeholders. Thus,
- Define and implement the policy, the objectives and the entire HSEQ management system
- Collect and process stakeholder requirements; centralize and process data feedback; share best practices
- Manage HSEQ performance and negotiate the resources needed to meet HSEQ challenges
- Train, Inform, Educate, Communicate and Sanction as needed to change behaviors and cultivate the HSEQ spirit
- Define managerial imperatives, technical constraints and non-negotiable rules
- Be firm on the application of HSEQ procedures and regulations
- Focus on continuous improvement and rapid results in each direction
- Support initiatives and allow the capitalization of good practices and lessons learned
- Participate in the design and deployment of behavioral objectives
- Encourage and promote good behavior among employees
- Participate in updating internal regulations with HSEQ sanction rules
- Support whistleblowers and alerts as appropriate
- Be informed, trained and accustomed to good HSEQ practices and reflexes
- Follow rules and procedures (for access, work permits, movement of people and vehicles, etc.)
- Wear the appropriate individual and/or collective protective equipment
- Intervene and question potential risks or unsafe behavior
- Alert his/her hierarchy and the PERCO for any danger, especially serious and imminent
- Respect the rules of prevention by participating in inductions, toolbox, pre-job meetings, risk analysis and/or safety checks before starting any task;
- Respect the rules related to smoking, alcohol, drugs and medication
- Carry out specific operations only with the right authorizations, under the right conditions, with the right information and with the right safety instructions
- Stop work if the hazard is not under control, and participate in resolving the hazard.
- Report and escalate any data that could improve risk control or HSEQ performance
- Adhere to the new HSEQ standards of the SMMC
- Have their personnel trained and apply the new HSEQ rules
- Inform and notify SMMC as soon as possible of any technical or organizational change in the performance of its mission requiring a new risk analysis
- Adhere to the new HSEQ standards of the SMMC
- Communicate to the SMMC the technical data sheets (FT) and the safety data sheets (SDS) of their products
- Inform and notify the CMMS of any changes requiring a new risk analysis on the handling, storage and/or distribution of these products.
By doing so and all together, we will succeed in:
